This command-line parameter launches the game in "dedicated server" mode. This is a command prompt instance of Quake where only the game logic is running. You cannot play this version of the game as there are no sounds or graphics presented. The server does not count as a player in the game. This mode is intended for people who want to host an online server or a local area network server (LAN.)
