Demo Recording

From Quake Wiki

To record a demo, type in the Quake console: record mydemo

To stop demo recording, type in the Quake console: stop

To play a demo: playdemo mydemo

Starting recording while a game is already running[edit]

GLQuake could not start recording a demo after the start of a map, but most modified engines like Quakespasm support this (an example of engine that doesn't is DarkPlaces).

Watching a demo that includes map changes[edit]

TODO

Demo Browser[edit]

Some engines include a demo browser in their menus to interactively choose a demo to watch. Notable examples are FTEQW as well as JoeQuake and its derivatives like QRACK.

Turning demo recordings into video files[edit]

Some engines allow the user to "capture" recorded demos as video files which can then be played back by standard media players or shared on video hosting sites. Notable examples are Darkplaces, FTEQW, Mark V as well as JoeQuake and its derivatives like QRACK.

To convert a demo to a movie file the console command usually is: capturedemo mydemo

For options check the engines' documentation.
